Stephanie is a Fully Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Michigan. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work from Saginaw Valley State University and her Master of Social Work from Michigan State University. Stephanie is an active member on the Alliance of Social Workers in Sports (ASWIS). As a member of the ASWIS, she has had the privilege of presenting to students and professionals at the annual international conference regarding reducing performance anxiety while improving peak performance.
Stephanie has extensive training working with the child, youth, and adolescent populations, both as a coach and mental health professional. As a volleyball (former) and softball (current) coach at the middle and high school levels respectively, she has gained a unique perspective on the challenges facing this population of athlete. As a mental health professional, Stephanie spends her days working with 6-18 year olds with anxiety, depression, adjustment, ADHD, grief, anger, and trauma concerns, among others.
As a former bio and neurofeedback provider, Stephanie honed her skills with providing mindfulness, visualization, stress management, and peak performance services. During that time, she also developed a unique passion for providing sleep, deep breathing, and concussion education. She has experience guiding high school, college, and professional athletes through their treatment processes.
Stephanie currently serves as a Host Family for the United Shore Professional Baseball League in Utica, Michigan. She has had the privilege of housing seven players and has assisted several with working through some transitions faced by athletes. These transitions include forced retirement, deciding to hang up the cleats for good, and the most coveted transition, to the Majors, when one was selected to join the Minnesota Twins Organization.
Transitions out of sports, sport injury, and sport identity are additional areas Stephanie is passionate. She was a dual sport athlete, playing volleyball and softball year round, starting at a young age. It was not until the middle of high school did she make the choice to give up volleyball to fully commit her energy and time on softball. Stephanie not only had the dream of playing softball at the collegiate level, she also had the talent, desire, and grit to do so.
Unfortunately, a nagging history of back, hip, and knee injuries forced her to make the difficult decision to ultimately not pursue her collegiate softball opportunity. This half forced, half chosen retirement, not only triggered an identity crisis, but exposed hidden mental health struggles, and caused a rift between her and her natural support systems.
However, Stephanie was not yet ready to fully give up her athlete identity and made the decision, on a whim, to join the dodgeball team at her college. Not long after, in 2011, with her natural athletic abilities and years of softball training, she became the team`s first female to make the National Tournament team roster. Fast forward a year later, to 2012, Stephanie became a Collegiate National Champion Athlete when her Alma Mater won the National Dodgeball Championship on their home court.
Stephanie has the passion, understanding, ability to relate, and desire to assist others along their chosen path and meet the personal and or professional goals they have set for themselves.
